Classroom Rules and Procedures

During the first weeks of school students will be learning all about the rules, routines and procedures of our school and classroom.  Adherence to these policies will help create a safe and structured learning environment where optimal growth can occur.  Students demonstrating compliance with these rules will receive positive reinforcement via stickers, positive notes home, verbal praise and 'smelly stamps' (scented chapstick for the back of their hand).  Failure to follow these rules will result in verbal warnings, conduct marks,  and loss of privilege.  Please review these rules with your student and reinforce their positive behavior.

Classroom Rules (The 4 B's)

1. Be Responsible- raise your hand, complete all work

2. Be Safe- keep hands to yourself, walk, use materials wisely, sit flat in chair

3. Be Caring- use kind words, take turns

Procedures

Hallways- In the hallways, students are to be silent, keep their hands off of their friends and walls, and to keep their eyes forward.

Restroom- Students are free to use the restroom as long as the teacher is not teaching.  They are to go, flush, wash and leave.  They are not to talk or play while they are there.

Lunch- Students are to stay seated during lunch.  If they need something, they may raise their hand.  They may speak to their friends immediately surrounding them using a quiet voice level.  They are to use their manners and pick up all trash upon leaving.  When it is time to go back to class, students need to walk to the line.

Recess- On the playground, students are to use all equiptment safely and as intended.  They must go down the slides feet first and one at a time.  They will not be allowed to use the monkey bars.  They are to play nicely with their friends and keep it safe.  Upon hearing me whistle, students are expected to immediately walk to the line without pushing or shoving.

Centers- Students are to play appropriately at their centers.  This means using a quiet voice level, taking turns, using supplies correctly and playing games as directed.  If they need something, they are to ask three friends before me and then they may come stand on the green x and wait for my assistance.  When the song plays for clean up, students are to stop playing and restore their center to the way it was when they found it.

Seatwork- Assignments are to be completed quietly.  Students are to get started immediately and complete their work in a timely fashion.  If assistance is needed, they are to ask three friends and then come wait on the green x to get my assistance.  Most work will be sent home daily.  Check your child's work to insure that they are completing their assignments.

Whole Group- During this time students are to sit in their spots criss-cross, hands in their laps and level 0 (silent).  They are to raise their hand to speak and wait to be called on.  Students may not leave to go to the restroom during this time unless there is an emergency.
